You could be fired and denied unemployment since you were fired for a criminal act.
The court will most likely award them:
1. The $140. You already admitted in writing that this was the fair market value for the rentals.
2. The court may award punitive damages as your actions were deliberate. I have heard of many cases where the punitive damages were 3 times the actual loss.
3. They may be awarded the cost of an lawyer to represent them in the case.
I think you can see where it is in your best interest to pay what they claim now.
Probably only the 140, but pay without court or you’ll have trouble getting a real job in the future.
And they are not your friends if they asked you to steal from work. Did they steal from their jobs for you?
Besides you confessed by signed document, pay up quietly, move on, and learn from this.
