I was recently employed by a video rental store that does not offer online mail rentals, and in some of the paperwork that I signed, it said that I would not work for any other competitor while I was employed with them or one year after leaving that company. This job requires actually being in the store and renting out movies to customers. Technically I haven’t started training yet.
Anyway, since I’ve been looking for work, I’ve applied at many different places. A temp agency just found me a job to work in a warehouse for an online movie rental company. They only deal in online mail movie rentals and have no stores for customers to come by and rent movies like the place I am currently employed at. At this job I would only be receiving returned rentals through the mail and shipping off new rentals. Technically I would be employed by the temp agency until and if this company decides to hire me, since I am labelled temp-to-hire.
These two companies are in the same industry—Any problems?
I currently have a job as an usher at a Regal Cinemas… Let’s just say Im a HUGE movie fan. Im just looking for a 2nd job over the summer, and if it goes well, I’ll keep at it. Your not allowed to work full time at the movie theatre, I am a few hours short every other week though. I just wanna get away from there for a while and not work at the theatre 5-6 days a week. Just way too much high school drama there.
For those who do/did work at a Blockbuster video store. Just a few questions: Benefits, I heard you get up to 5 movie rentals per week… this true? Also, do you get discounts on buying dvds (10%)? I also heard that around christmas, you get 20% off for buying dvds? When buying dvds, they don’t have any lame blockbuster logo sticks on the case or dvds? Can I buy them fresh as if I were to buy them at Best Buy? Also, I havent been to a blockbuster in a while? Do most blockbusters rent out Blu Ray Discs? And whats the hourly rate? Im assuming min. wage? A;so, I live in NY.
I apologize if this is lengthy but I really need a second opinion before I lose my mind. I’m a 23 year old recent college grad, have been dating my girlfriend (21) for almost a year. We have a fantastic relationship and I can predict it will last into marriage. She is still finishing up her 3rd year at school while i’m pocketing 52k a year at my job working like an animal. She also lives with her parents and pays for basically a phone bill and gas and nothing much else. I pay for my car payments, insurance, etc. etc. etc. (I live with family right now but moving out soon). When we go out and do things, I’d say that 99% of the time I front the bill because Im a gentleman and thats how I was raised. However, recently i’ve been getting bitter and resentfull that she doesn’t offer to pay for the SMALLEST of things which are proportionate to her budget…for example…a movie rental ($5)…ice cream ($7) and it makes me feel …well, used. I spoke to her and she got offended. Says shes broke
She did pay $600 of her birthday money to pay for our drink bill and excrusions on a cruise we took last month, but thats about it. To me its not a money issue, its an idea of reciprication (spelling, sorry). She makes less,i understand that, but she doesnt have even $10 a month to pay for a movie? She says she has $600 in debt…but that shouldnt be my obligation! I’m not a savings plan right? We’re not married…so I would just like some women’s advice on this. Am i irrational? Am i being cheap?
